Big Ass Spider DVD and Blu-ray Short Review

1 star for this unexpectedly entertaining B-movie.Big Ass Spider cover
Big Ass Spider is written by Gregory Gieras (Centipede!, Dark Asylum) and directed by Mike Mendez (The Convent, Bimbo Movie Bash).
Unlike the majority of films such as this, Big Ass Spider is not entirely devoid of acting talent, starring Greg Grunberg (Heroes, Hollow Man) as the intrepid pest control officer, charged with the task of saving the planet and Lombardo Boyar (24, Gone in 60 Seconds) as his inevitable and not at all cliched Mexican side-kick.

Tenebrae Limited Edition Steelbook DVD and Blu-ray Short Review

1 star for this almost unbelievably dated looking "cult classic".Tenebrae cover
Tenebrae was first released in 1982 and was written and directed by iconic Italian horror maestro, Dario Argento (Suspiria, Phenomena), however this is not one of his better offerings.
Tenebrae tells the story of Peter Neal (Anthony Franciosa - The Long Hot Summer), an American author who is visiting Rome in order to secure a book deal.

Naruto Shippūden Box Set 15 DVD Short Review

3 stars for this rather lack-lustre next installment in the story of Naruto Uzumaki.Naruto 15 Cover
This takes place directly after the events of the previous Box Set 14, set during the Konoha History Arc and sees The Leaf Village (Konoha) trying to re-build and pick up the pieces after being destroyed in an attack.
The Hokage, Tsunade, is still in a coma, having over exerted herself in defense of the village, leaving Danzo in charge, while Team 7 continue with their missions (without Sasuke, who has left the village due to a falling out with Naruto).
Naruto 15 Leaf Village rebuildAt least I think they do. And that is a major part of the problem with this series. There are so many flashbacks and sequences of misty eyed reminiscence that you are almost never sure whether what you are seeing is taking place now or at some undefined point in the past. The only time you can really be sure you are in the present is when they are at the bedside of Tsunade.

Fairy Tail Part 5 DVD Short Review

4 Star Wacky Wizard Anime
Fairytailcover
This is the continuation of the saga of the Fairy Tail Guild from episode #49-#60 and from the pen of Hiro Mashima, (Monster Hunter Orage).

Even though these episodes are PG rated there are an awfully large amount of sexual innuendoes, (French maids that are into lesbian BDSM) just for starters.
Perhaps if you don't get it it won't affect you, but if parents catch a glimpse or a conversation by accident there might be some strong words exchanged before they realise its anime.

The Fairy Tails main male protagonist is the fire wizard Natsu,(Rosey Spiky hair) who has a happy go lucky approach to life but at the drop of a hat he will be scrapping with his guild brother Gray, (Black spiky hair) over who is the best, Natsu's fire or Gray's ice magic.
The episodes cover young peoples issues such as their first boyfriend/girlfriend feelings and those of parental pressures such as Lucy, (blond hair) and her wealthy father.
Even with their own problems, bigger things are in the offing.

THE AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 IS AT UK CINEMAS APRIL 18

CULVER CITY, Calif., December 5, 2013 – Sony Pictures and the large network of companies within the Sony family will unite worldwide today, Thursday, December 5, 2013, in support of the studio’s teaser trailer for its highly anticipated film, The Amazing Spider-Man 2™. The launch event was announced today by Dwight Caines, president of Theatrical Marketing for Sony Pictures, and Nigel Clark, president of Marketing for Sony Pictures Releasing International. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 will be released in theaters internationally beginning April 16, 2014, and domestically on May 2, 2014.

The trailer will launch worldwide today at 1:30 p.m. GMT (8:30 a.m. EST / 5:30 a.m. PST) and will be available in multiple languages including English, German, Italian, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Japanese, Chinese Simplified (China), Chinese Traditional (Taiwan), Chinese Traditional (Hong Kong), Korean, and Russian.

The trailer will appear on numerous Sony networks, internet sites, and other Sony properties, including the movie’s official site (TheAmazingSpiderMan.com) and social pages (at Facebook.com/theamazingspiderman, on Twitter @SpiderManMovie, theamazingspidermanblog.com, and thedailybugle.tumblr.com); Sony.com; Sony Pictures’ official site and social pages; the Sony Pictures YouTube channel; Sony Pictures Imageworks’ official site and social page; Sony Pictures Television Networks’ worldwide footprint of TV channels, digital networks, websites, social apps and platforms, including AXN, Animax, Sony Entertainment Television, Spin, Crackle, Kalixta, Sony Movie Channel, CineSony, FEARnet and the Game Show Network; PlayStation (official site, blog, and social pages); PlayStation Storefront; Sony Entertainment Network (official sites and social pages); Sony Electronics social pages; Sony Mobile social pages; Sony Select service on Sony Mobile smartphones; and Sony’s Times Square billboard.

Commenting on the announcement, Caines said, “We are always looking to reach moviegoers wherever they are, and when we have the opportunity to leverage Sony’s worldwide reach in this way, it’s an opportunity that we just have to grab. The filmmakers are delivering the epic Spider-Man movie that audiences truly want to experience, and we are thrilled to give the world its first real taste of the movie they’ll be seeing next summer.”

Clark added, “Spider-Man is beloved by audiences all over the world, so we wanted to launch the trailer in a truly global way. We have had great success launching trailers across Sony’s diverse entertainment platform – and when you have a character like Spider-Man, it demands a broad, fun way to reach moviegoers internationally as well as domestically. Everyone at Sony is just as excited as we are to see the next chapter in the story of Peter Parker begin to unfold in this way.”

We’ve always known that Spider-Man’s most important battle has been within himself: the struggle between the ordinary obligations of Peter Parker and the extraordinary responsibilities of Spider-Man. But in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Peter Parker finds that a greater conflict lies ahead.

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: OsCorp. Directed by Marc Webb. Produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. Screen Story and Screenplay by Alex Kurtzman & Roberto Orci & Jeff Pinkner. Based on the Marvel Comic Book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko.

It would be an impossible mission: with the art trapped behind enemy lines, and with the German army under orders to destroy everything as the Reich fell, how could these guys – seven museum directors, curators, and art historians, all more familiar with Michelangelo than the M-1 – possibly hope to succeed? But as the Monuments Men, as they were called, found themselves in a race against time to avoid the destruction of 1000 years of culture, they would risk their lives to protect and defend mankind’s greatest achievements.

Peter O’Toole joins star studded cast in British Independent Film ‘Katherine Of Alexandria’

  • All-star British cast includes Joss Ackland, Steven Berkoff, and Edward Fox
  • Saint Katherine’s story to be told for the first time on screen
  • One of the biggest British independent films for decades
  • The cream of British cinema talent behind the camera

November 25, 2013: Multi-award winning actor Peter O’Toole joins a star-studded cast in one of the biggest British Independent productions for decades. The film tells the remarkable story of Katherine of Alexandria and her link to Constantine the Great. Katherine, the patron saint of scholars, was officially removed from the Catholic calendar in 1969 only to be reinstated in 2002 by Pope John Paul II.

Peter O’Toole, nominated for a total of eight Academy Awards, given an honorary Oscar, and winner of four Golden Globes, produces a fine performance as palace orator Gallus, alongside Romanian newcomer Nicole Keniheart who plays the persecuted Katherine.

Screen-writer and director Michael Redwood states: “My agenda was simple: painstaking research, to create an intelligent screenplay and to seek out Britain’s best performers for their unrivalled ability to help portray the story of this religious icon. The dialogue demanded some of the world’s most recognisable voices such as Peter O’Toole and Edward Fox, who were an inspiration to work with. Katherine’s voice also had to be most haunting in its delivery

The film stars Joss Ackland, C.B.E, (White Mischief, Lethal Weapon 2) playing Rufus, Steven Berkoff (Octopussy, Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) as Liberius, Edward Fox, O.B.E, (The Day of the Jackal, Edward VIII) playing Emperor Constantius and Samantha Beckinsale (London’s Burning, Shelley), half-sister of Kate Beckinsale, as the Empress Vita. Katherine of Alexandria was directed by British filmmaker Michael Redwood and filmed at Paphos in Cyprus, and Hadrian’s Wall, Pinewood Studios and Elstree Studios in the UK. The movie is set for release early 2014.

Behind the camera, debut director Redwood surrounded himself with award winning talent. Oscar winner John Poyner is Sound Supervisor, Golden Globe winner Matt Howe is Surround Sound Mixer, Oscar winner John Schoonraad is Prosthetics Supervisor and award winning cinematographer Peter Taylor is on camera.

Over 2 billion Christians around the world are expected to celebrate St Katherine’s Day on 25th November, and there are approximately 1,100 buildings in her honour around the globe. Millions of people each year pay homage to the Saint at her monastery on Mount Sinai, Egypt, her final resting place. Despite this, so little is known about the intrigue surrounding this iconic woman.

It is commonly believed that Katherine was a Christian maiden of Alexandria in Egypt, possessing beauty, brains and noble birth. Redwood’s film portrays Katherine as a real woman, with feelings of torment and fear but a steadfast belief in her denouncement of Rome’s enforced pagan worship upon the masses. This would eventually lead to her being pitted against Rome’s finest scholars at an open trial in Alexandria, one of the film’s most dramatic scenes.

The Fifth Beatle Graphic Novel Short Review

4 stars all the way for this brilliant new addition to the unstoppable machine that is the Beatles.
Fifth Beatle Cover
The Fifth Beatle is a graphic novel from the well known and respected Dark Horse Comics, written by Vivek J. Tiwary (Greenday's American Idiot, The Addams Family) and beautifully illustrated by Andrew C. Robinson (Dusty Star) and Kyle Baker (Why I hate Saturn, Plastic Man), who is responsible for a special section in the middle of the book, paying homage to the Beatles comics of the 1960s.

As a fan of the Beatles, if you said to me "the fifth Beatle" my mind would automatically go to George Martin, their record producer, as I think would most peoples. So it was rather a surprise to discover that this is in fact the Brian Epstein story.

And a tragic and fascinating tale it is. As he explains in his afterword, Vivek J. Tiwary has devoted a good portion of his career to researching and uncovering the truth behind this flawed hero, responsible for the Beatles meteoric rise to fame.
