After Earth gets a trailer

When I saw who was directing this film my heart sank. M. Night Shyamalan. Shiteman, sorry Shyamalan, has had a bad run with films. After the great 6th Sense and then Unbreakable his career has taken quite a nosedive in both making himself look more and more like a one trick pony when it comes to writing and then directing his own screenplays. That came to a head with either Lady in the Water or the critically, and commercially panned The Last Airbender.

So with trepidation I clicked play on the trailer and thought it was great. My mind was helped when I discovered he was only hired to tell the actors where to stand and how to say what was written. In other words - he's only the director and has had nothing to do with writing the film. This will, hopefully, mean that there won;t be some corny, crowbared, twist almost at the end of act 3!

A crash landing leaves teenager Kitai Raige (Jaden Smith) and his legendary father Cypher (Will Smith) stranded on Earth, 1,000 years after cataclysmic events forced humanity’s escape. With Cypher critically injured, Kitai must embark on a perilous journey to signal for help, facing uncharted terrain, evolved animal species that now rule the planet, and an unstoppable alien creature that escaped during the crash. Father and son must learn to work together and trust one another if they want any chance of returning home.
Crashing into UK cinemas June 7, 2013
