Exclusive Screening of Battleship...on a Battleship

Blockbuster thanks Armed Forces for involvement in the Games

On Monday night, HMS OCEAN, the Royal Navy's largest ship hosted an exclusive screening of the

blockbuster film, Battleship, courtesy of retailer Blockbuster - to thank the crew for their involvement in the security of the Olympics.

The 980 crew members of HMS OCEAN, which is moored near Greenwich, have provided a range of security support during the last two weeks. However last night they were given the chance to relax in the hangar of the ship and enjoy the explosive film, which stars global superstar Rihanna alongside Academy Award nominee, Liam Neeson and Hollywood newcomer, Taylor Kitsch.

HMS OCEAN, also played its part in welcoming the Games to London when the crew created the five rings on the flight deck on the 13th July, two weeks before the opening ceremony.

Blockbuster's head of movies, James Wilcox said: "As we have the rental rights to Battleship before anyone else, we felt that it was only right that we celebrate this mega-film on the Royal Navy's biggest battleship and thank all the crew for their involvement in making the Games such a successful, and safe, event."

Commander Jon Asbridge RN, The Logistics Officer of HMS Ocean said : “The ship is in London for some 9 weeks helping to provide security to the Olympics and Paralympics and accommodation for military personnel working at Greenwich Park.  With around 1000 sailors, marines, soldiers and airmen living onboard this is a fantastic opportunity for them to get some downtime for an exclusive showing of ‘Battleship’ in such an appropriate venue as the aircraft hangar of the Royal Navy’s largest warship.  On behalf of them all, I must thank Blockbuster for their generosity in putting this event on for us.

Battleship will also be available to buy on 20th August from Blockbuster and other retailers on DVD and Blu-ray.
