The Dictator leads the UK box office

Admiral General Aladeen is number 1 movie in the UK after taking £5m in opening weekend

London, UK – Paramount Pictures’ The Dictator has seized the number one spot at the box office in the UK & Ireland. The film, which stars Sacha Baron Cohen, is the second biggest opening for a comedy in 2012, and has toppled The Avengers from the top spot after taking almost £5m in its opening weekend. This result overtakes the opening weekends of other comedies including Bridesmaids and The Hangover, and matches Baron Cohen’s previous hit, Bruno, which released in 2009.

Sacha Baron Cohen (Aladeen), Anna Faris (Zoey), Jason Mantzoukas (Nuclear Nadal) and Sir Ben Kingsley (Uncle Tamir) star in The Dictator. The music is by Erran Baron Cohen. The costume designer is Jeffrey Kurland. The film is edited by Greg Hayden and Eric Kissack. The production designer is Victor Kempster; the director of photography is Lawrence Sher. The executive producers are Mari Jo Winkler-Ioffreda, Adam McKay, Peter Baynham and Dan Mazer.
