Hummer, a 4 year old Pomeranian has been nominated for his touching performance as ‘Dolce’ alongside Charlize Theron in Jason Reitman’s lauded new comedy Young Adult.
Young Adult director explained recently how he came across Hummer; “I couldn’t find the right dog, we looked at a lot trained dogs but nothing was right. Finally my producer was in Manhattan, saw a dog on the street, took a photo of it and said, ‘What do you think of this one?’ And I was like ‘That’s the dog!’ We cast Hummer and sent it to Minneapolis.” Since his owner agreed, it allowed the non-professional mutt to make his acting debut as a loyal dog opposite Academy Award© winning actress, Charlize Theron.
The director also explained that he picked the Pomeranian breed because “It’s the only dog that is genetically always smiling. I thought it would be funny if Charlize was being so cruel to this dog all the time and all it could do back physically was smile. It’s in its DNA is smile back.”
Hummer’s Young Adult co-star Charlize Theron is also to receive the first Golden Collar Humanitarian Award at the February event.
The nominations were announced yesterday by The Artist co-stars Penelope Ann-Miller and Uggie the Jack Russell.
