Star Wars in 3D gets some 2D images

Just a short time ago Fox released the below images for the upcoming money grab from George Lucas in converting The Phantom Menace into 3D. I have already posted up the glorious 2D trailer. As always, click to embiggen the images.

Talk about The Thing

Not that long to go before Universal's prequel to the John Carpenter classic that shares the same name. With this, they have sent over a cast and crew featurette.

Also, I've found the UK trailer to go with the US one that I posted a while ago.

Antarctica: an extraordinary continent of awesome beauty. It is also home to an isolated outpost where a discovery full of scientific possibility becomes a mission of survival when an alien is unearthed by a crew of international scientists. The shape-shifting creature, accidentally unleashed at this marooned colony, has the ability to turn itself into a perfect replica of any living being. It can look just like you or me, but inside, it remains inhuman. In the thriller The Thing, paranoia spreads like an epidemic among a group of researchers as they’re infected, one by one, by a mystery from another planet.

Paleontologist Kate Lloyd (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) has traveled to the desolate region for the expedition of her lifetime. Joining a Norwegian scientific team that has stumbled across an extraterrestrial ship buried in the ice, she discovers an organism that seems to have died in the crash eons ago. But it is about to wake up.

When a simple experiment frees the alien from its frozen prison, Kate must join the crew’s pilot, Carter (Joel Edgerton), to keep it from killing them off one at a time. And in this vast, intense land, a parasite that can mimic anything it touches will pit human against human as it tries to survive and flourish.

The Thing serves as a prelude to John Carpenter’s classic 1982 film of the same name. Directed by Matthijs van Heijningen, the thriller is produced by Strike Entertainment’s Marc Abraham and Eric Newman (Dawn of the Dead).

Meet the cast of The Lorax

With a load of new images and a nice "meet the cast" featurette Universal has made me smile. If you missed the trailer then you can watch it if you head over here.

The 3D-CGI feature Dr. Seuss’ The Lorax is an adaptation of Dr. Seuss’ classic tale of a forest creature who shares the enduring power of hope. The animated adventure follows the journey of a boy as he searches for the one thing that will enable him to win the affection of the girl of his dreams. To find it he must discover the story of the Lorax, the grumpy yet charming creature who fights to protect his world.

Danny DeVito will lend his vocal talents to the iconic title character of the Lorax, while Ed Helms will voice the enigmatic Once-ler. Also bringing their talents to the film are global superstars Zac Efron as Ted, the idealistic young boy who searches for the Lorax, and Taylor Swift as Ashley, the girl of Ted’s dreams. Rob Riggle will play financial king O’Hare, and beloved actress Betty White will portray Ted’s wise Grammy Norma.

One Life DVD Release Review

One Life is an excellent documentary and I have given it 4.0 stars.

This is a production from BBC Earth Films and explores the world of animals, covering topics including mothers and their young, finding food and mating rituals.

Groundbreaking cinematography makes for a spectacular display and some quite astonishing views of creatures which haven't really been seen before. All of the footage was filmed specifically for One Life and a huge amount of work was required to bring it all together.

It is narrated in a very unobtrusive fashion by Daniel Craig (Casino Royale, Layer Cake) who does a great job and manages not to be too patronizing.

There is one complaint with One Life, that in this day and age when we are all being told to pay attention to our carbon footprint, this takes it in entirely the opposite direction, moving large quantities of people and equipment all over the world. Yes, the results are brilliant, but are they justified? That will be up to individuals to decide. It is also perhaps just slightly longer than it needs to be, I was getting bored towards the end.

One Life also includes a second disc of special features, which are extremely impressive and very informative. They include; The making of One Life, Behind the scenes at the music recording, Interviews with the filmmakers, Theatrical trailer, Interviews with cameramen (fascinating), On location and Bonus footage.

In summary I would say that this is interesting, pretty educational and a great watch for the whole family, especially the kids.

One life is available to buy now on DVD and Blu-ray.

With only a few days left before Mumbles dances back onto the silver screen. With that Warner Bros. has just sent over a couple of behind-the-scenes featurettes. This to go with the clip that was released a couple of weeks ago.

The girl gets more images

Sony has just sent over four new images for the US remake of the first book in Stig Larsson’s Millennium Trilogy, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.  For some reason I have missed putting the teaser poster up so here you go...

The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is the first film in Columbia Pictures’ three-picture adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s literary blockbuster The Millennium Trilogy. Directed by David Fincher and starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is based on the first novel in the trilogy, which altogether have sold 50 million copies in 46 countries and become a worldwide phenomenon.
