Screwed - images and the trailer

With Doctor Who's Noel Clark this prison thriller hits UK cinemas in early June.

Gritty prison thriller SCREWED turns the genre on its head by showing life behind bars through the eyes of the guards.

James D’Arcy (Master & Commander, Exorcist: The Beginning, Secret Diary of a Call Girl) stars as Sam, an English everyman forced to take a job as a prison officer on his return from a traumatic tour of duty in Iraq. He quickly bonds with his hardened fellow screws but the violence and desperation he witnesses on the job and his haunting memories of bloodshed overseas draw him down into a world of drink and drugs – a world in which he is increasingly alienated from his family.

When a confrontation with the prison authorities on the inside and the fatal shooting of a fellow officer on the outside lead Sam to the realisation that the watchmen may be as corrupt as the prisoners they’re paid to watch, he becomes embroiled in a potentially deadly game of cat-and-mouse against the background of a full-scale cellblock riot.

Screwed is produced and written by the man who lived it, Ronnie Thompson, and directed by Reg Traviss (Joy Division, Psychosis).
In cinemas 3rd June, 2011.

Horrible Bosses - First image

Once upon a time there were good actors with a glowing career ahead of them. Now comes a film with multiple Oscar winner in it. however with just reading the synopsis does make me feel that "an Oscar doesn't make a career in good films". In their day any one of four of the cast would be enough to draw in massive box office but that was five to ten years ago. Now they have all come together in the ensemble comedy, Horrid Bosses.

For Nick (Jason Bateman), Kurt (Jason Sudeikis) and Dale (Charlie Day), the only thing that would make the daily grind more tolerable would be to grind their intolerable bosses (Kevin Spacey, Colin Farrell, Jennifer Aniston) into dust. Quitting is not an option, so, with the benefit of a few-too-many drinks and some dubious advice from a hustling ex-con (Jamie Foxx), the three friends devise a convoluted and seemingly foolproof plan to rid themselves of their respective employers...permanently. There's only one problem: even the best laid plans are only as foolproof as the brains behind them.

Conan gets some images

I've been aware of this film for a good number of years. sometimes it got a release date other times it was just "To Be Confirmed". Originally Red Sonya was also going to be released by Lions Gate but this one has seemed to have vanished back into development hell. this film is CONAN THE BARBARIAN in 3D but the images (and the trailer) below make it look like some cheap Roger Corman take on the story.

An action packed retelling of the origin of Robert E. Howard's classic hero: Conan the Cimmerian

A clip and a featurette from TT3D Closer to the Edge

TT3D: Closer to the Edge - Making Of
clip
TT3D: Closer to the Edge is a film about the TT, the world-famous motorcycle race that takes place on the Isle of Man every year. Racing along public roads on bikes just inches apart - with speeds hitting 200mph - drama, tension and tragedy all combine to thrill the audience and tell a very moving human story.

Every rider knows that each race might be his or her last. Riders push themselves up to and beyond their limits in their bid to become "King of the Mountain".

The film follows the leading riders in the 2010 race – modern day gladiators who live and breathe road racing – and meet some of its biggest stars: In particular Guy Martin and Ian Hutchinson.

Martin is a lovable rogue with a unique point of view on life who doesn’t play by the rules. A true maverick, he’s regarded as the “People’s Champion” and his off -road antics continually exasperate his sponsor and race officials. His determination to win his first race pushes him to the limit.

Hutchinson, on the other hand is dedicated, focused and works hard to stay at the top.

Then there’s John McGuinness - fifteen times winner of the TT – as he prepares to race with an obsessive passion to win combined with the fatalistic understanding that each trip to the TT might be his last. We also meet Bridget Dobbs, widow of TT star Paul Dobbs “Dobsy”, who accepts with equanimity that her husband, like many others, died doing the thing he loved the most in life.

Jared Leto was always the perfect choice for narrator of TT3D: Closer to the Edge. Having seen an early cut of the film he said, “I'm proud to be a part of this groundbreaking film that celebrates this infamous event and the legendary spirit of the men and women who push themselves beyond the limit to places few could even imagine”.

A story about freedom of choice and the strength of the human spirit; it’s also an examination of what motivates those rare few, this elite band of brothers who risk everything to win. Filmed in stunning 3D: Closer to the Edge is a story about what it means to be truly alive.

Age Of Heroes

Low budget and action? Who are you going to call? Yes you're correct it's tom Cruise, sorry, not that one! it's Danny Dyre and Sean Bean!
AGE OF HEROES is an action-packed British thriller based on the real-life events of Ian Fleming’s 30 Commando during World War II – an inspiration for the modern day SAS. The 30 Commando were one of the most respected, secretive and exclusive Special Forces regiments formed during the Second World War.

Ambushed deep behind enemy lines in WW2, the young British corporal Rains (DANNY DYER) fearlessly leads his men out of danger. But his rogue attitude costs him, and he’s sent to an allied military prison for insubordination. When the highly esteemed Captain Jones (SEAN BEAN) shows up, Rains’ bravado and raw display of fighting skills impress Jones enough to recruit him for his commando unit.

After weeks of mentally intense and physically gruelling training ops where Jones tests his men to their breaking point, they are quickly assigned their first mission; to parachute into occupied Norway and capture a deadly new radar technology from the Germans. But as they get near the drop-zone, the newly formed band of brothers, joined by ‘Norwegian yank’ Steiner and beautiful blonde spy Jensen, find themselves in the midst of a fierce dogfight, before crash landing in a Norwegian village where Nazis have been mercilessly executing civilians.

In a bloody battle in the mountains of Norway, outnumbered by an enemy as ruthless as it is clinical, the soldiers soon realize it is do-or-die time. And by pushing their innate skills and hardcore training to the limits, we see that this is no time for ordinary soldiers… This is the AGE OF HEROES.

Click on the above image to see a larger version

X-MEN FIRST CLASS charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.

Arthur, The Premiere

Yesterday saw the European premiere at The O2 in London of Russell Brand's new film, Arthur. Now, Warner Bros. has sent over some footage from the event as well as two new featurettes.

‘Meet Arthur’
‘Cast of Arthur’
In this fresh new look at a classic story, Russell Brand reinvents the role of loveable billionaire Arthur Bach, an irresponsible charmer who has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of his lifelong nanny and best friend Hobson (Helen Mirren), to keep him out of trouble.

Kind-hearted, fun-loving, and utterly without purpose, Arthur spends every day in the heedless pursuit of amusement. But when his unpredictable public image threatens the staid reputation of the family foundation, Bach Worldwide, he is given an ultimatum: marry the beautiful but decidedly unlovable Susan Johnson (Jennifer Garner), an ambitious corporate exec who can keep him in line, or say goodbye to his billion-dollar inheritance and the only way of life he knows.

It’s a deal Arthur would be inclined to take…if he hadn’t just fallen for Naomi (Greta Gerwig), a New York City tour guide who shares his idealism and spontaneity. The independent Naomi sees Arthur not only for who he is, but for who he could be, and finally gives him a reason to take charge of his own life.

All he needs to do is stand up for what he wants. But at what cost?

With some unconventional help from Hobson—the one person who always believed he could do anything—Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and learn what it means to become a man.

Directed by Jason Winer (TV’s “Modern Family”), the romantic comedy “Arthur” also stars Luis Guzmán as Arthur’s driver, Bitterman, always up for an adventure; and Nick Nolte as Susan’s fearsome father, Burt, who will do whatever it takes to make his little girl happy.

CINEMA STAFF REWARDED FOR PREVENTING PIRACY

This is something that just hit my in-box.  I was always a bit cynical about the chances of being caught recording a new film at the cinema.  This is only a small snapshot with the FACT/FDA awards but it does show that cinema staff do take this seriously.  There are images of the event at the bottom of the page.

11 employees from cinemas across the UK have been presented with awards totalling £2,900 for their efforts in preventing illegal recordings (so called ‘camcordings’) taking place.

The Federation Against Copyright Theft (‘FACT’) and the Film Distributors’ Association (‘FDA’) operate a training, prevention and reward scheme for all UK cinemas. Illegal recordings of films are the primary source for pirate copies worldwide - recordings are uploaded to the internet and made available within hours to millions of people. Film piracy in the UK alone costs legitimate businesses over half a billion pounds a year and directly threatens the jobs of tens of thousands of people who work across the film sector.

FACT works closely with cinema operators to ensure that staff are trained to detect and prevent such recordings, as well as assisting in raising awareness with police on this issue so they are able to assist when called to an incident.
  • 9 camcording incidents are represented
  • Police attended all of them
  • 2 incidents led to arrests
  • 7 incidents led to police cautions at the scene
  • 2 led to formal cautions in custody
11 members of cinema-staff are due to receive awards (there are 2 x joint rewards)

At a specially-convened ceremony at Paramount Pictures, London, each received a cheque for several hundred pounds for their part in thwarting attempts to record films at their cinema.

All present received a warm welcome and congratulations from FDA Chief Executive Mark Batey who thanked all the award recipients for their vigilance and use of night vision devices, especially when digital recording devices are not easy to spot.

FACT’s Director of Business, Jim Angell, said that no-one should be in any doubt about the increasing sophistication of those trying to record films, and the increasing difficulty that detecting them presented to cinema staff. The success of those present was therefore particularly worth celebrating, he said, adding:

"These rewards prove the ongoing commitment from everyone working in the film sector to combat piracy. A recording captured in a cinema is the primary source for illicit online files and pirate DVDs and cinema staff are on the front line of the fight; continuing to prevent such recordings in the UK. I am delighted to be able to acknowledge and reward their achievements."

Awards were presented to:
  • CALUM BARTOLI - Empire Newcastle
  • DOLLY BHATTI - Vue Birmingham
  • KERRY BURKES, OLIVER COLLS, JENNY GEARY & CHELSEA GORDON - Cineworld Bexleyheath
  • MD- MINHAZUR CHOWDHURY & AMINE MENADLI - Cineworld Wood Green
  • LIAM SLATER - Cineworld Ashton
  • GINA HAWKINS - Odeon Nuneaton
  • CARL LEWIS - Cineworld Wood Green
Each individual receiving a reward - in many cases matched by a similar amount from their employing company - did so as a result of the FDA-funded scheme available to any member of cinema staff involved in the successful apprehension of film thieves.
Further details on the scheme - and more information on the fight against film theft - can be found at www.fightfilmtheft.org.uk
